CELLSRV Not Updating On LG V20 With Stock Android 7

Hello. I have owned and used Tasker for years. I just got a new phone, LG V20 w/Android 7. This is a flagship phone and I am running stock (although systemless rooted) Android firmware. Unlike my last phone (Note 3, stock/rooted Android 4.4.2) Tasker is simply not updating the CELLSRV variable on the new LG phone. It always seems to report "unknown". I have tried enabling new cell api with no change. I have read posts from Pent that this can vary by ROM (specifically regarding CM Android) but I find it hard to believe that something like a flagship Android phone from a large maker will not work. Can you please help?

Thanks for your help on this. I agree that LG can (and maybe does) odd/strange things sometimes. I am battling with that sort of thing now even in my own apps. Cheers

I know you are new at supporting Tasker and I am in awe of your willingness to attempt it. I can only imagine how complex it is. I sure hope you have a deal with Pent to get assistance.

Anyhow, it MIGHT be an LG thing. I have seen comments somewhere from Pent on this saying it might be a ROM issue. However, I am running stock but rooted firmware, latest available version of Android 7 for the device. It is not like this is some no-name device though. LG makes alot of (nice) phones.

All my other devices doing this have been Samsung and they have handled it no problem.

Let me know if I can help.

Thanks

Thank you very much. :)

Yes, LG is a big brand, but that doesn't stop it from doing certain details differently from other brands :) Stuff like this is so niche that I find it very likely that few to no people complain to them about it if they implement it differently.

I'll try to figure it out on my LG when I get the chance, thanks again!

Well, I have no idea how to force Tasker to do this. I have the CELLSRV variable used in a profile and I understand that is supposed to make Tasker start monitoring it. I have cell signal just fine. But the variable is not updated to reflect this. It stays as unknown all the time. I am not the only person to see this behavior. There are some in the G+ for Tasker who have reported the same. For this not to work on a name-brand, flagship phone is a real problem. I have developed some Android apps myself (for example System Settings For Tasker). So I can maybe help in resolving this issue. Let me know. Thanks

I have only recently started with Tasker development, so I haven't had the chance to really find out how this works.

I tried it on my LG G4 and actually had the same results. The value is kept as "unknown".

Maybe it really is some LG specific issue? Maybe the previous developer never got the chance to test it there? I need to test it on my LG and see if I can find something..

That state happens when the variable hasn't been updated yet. Can that be the case here maybe?

thanks. i get the proper documented values on note3 android 4.4.2. also got them on note 4 with android 6 but returned that one. now have lg v20 w/android 7. thanks. as a developer myself (system settings for tasker) let me know if i can help.

Hi there. What value did you use to get on the older device? On my Pixel 2 I get the value "service". Thanks
